Festival of Children Foundation

Clutch for a Cause!

08.31.11

If there’s one luxe handbag on your want list, make it a one-of-a-kind Judith Leiber minaudière to benefit Festival of Children Foundation, an OC-based nonprofit that’s improving the lives of children. The iconic American luxury brand created the limited edition bag, with all proceeds from tickets sales benefiting Festival of Children Foundation. You could be the lucky winner of the special Swarosvki crystal clutch featuring the Festival of Children’s carousel horse logo, but you need to purchase an opportunity ticket. (Only 100 tickets will be sold at $100 each for this rare luxe handbag.)

The bag will debut at Festival of Children Foundation’s private opening night party Thursday at South Coast Plaza.  Tickets to win the bag will be available through September in the Judith Leiber boutique at South Coast Plaza until all tickets are sold.  The winner will be chosen on September 29.

Level 1, in the Nordstrom wing at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa. 714.549.7177.

Perfect Pleats, Wear to Where

Wear to Where: Perfect Pleats

08.31.11

Transitional wardrobe pieces are a must here in Orange County and pleats are your best bet this Fall. While most consider it a luxury, the warm weather doesn’t permit us to indulge in the chunky sweaters, scarves and boots of fall until well into the season and, for the fashion obsessed, the anticipation can sometimes be torture.

Cue my favorite trend for Fall – PLEATS.  I can’t get enough of all the pleated maxi and midi skirts. With endless color and fabric options, these fabulous skirts look just as great with a simple t-shirt as they do with a heavy knit; and just as chic with a summer wedge as they do with this season’s popular ankle boots. The best part is that they can be found for a great price at places like H&M, American Apparel and Urban Outfitters.

There are many different styles of pleats, but the most seen and used have been knife and sunrays. Knife pleats are single pleats that all go in the same direction, sunrays are similar but their cuts start smaller and get wider towards the bottom creating a flared effect.

In order to create the best possible look certain simple rules should be kept in mind when wearing pleats. Take into account the fact that pleats are generally used to create bulk, so this type of detail should be avoided in areas where you don't want emphasized. On the other hand, women with broad shoulders can benefit from adding pleats on the lower part of the body to create a look with balance. If you want to draw attention away from this detail a good choice would be to opt for a stronger, more vibrant color on the body part you want to emphasize. A bold dramatic accessory can work in the same way.   Happy Shopping!
